FAQ

Why do you post so irregularly these days?
I try, in theory, to post at least once every two weeks. I would love to post once a week. I am not a full-time blogger, though, and in fact I have a separate full-time job which has a tendency to be a bit emotionally draining at times. I found it easier to post regularly when I was a student because I had periods of downtime interspersed with periods of intense busyness. Now that I'm working full-time, I'm on a low level of busyness constantly, so it can be hard to get to posting. That doesn't mean that I don't have a lot to say still, though, so that's why there will occasionally be a lot of posts all in a row.

What is your job in real life?
I'm very fortunate to have a cool job working in women's health.

Where do you live? Are you in the US or the UK?
I'm in the US now. When I started this blog, I was living in the UK for my year abroad. That's why I was able to do all those mass reviews of bras at Bravissimo--there was one within walking distance of me at the time! I now try to do posts helping US women gain access to all those lovely UK bras.

What bra would be right for my shape?
My blog contains tons of resources to help with this question. It's sort of the reason this blog exists in the first place. Check out these posts to get some tips on this:

Can't I just ask you individually what bra would be perfect for me?
You can certainly try. However, it will usually take me a lot longer to get back to you if you email me personally. Like, a really, REALLY long time. I'm not proud of it, but I almost never check my blog email so I will likely not see your message for quite awhile. If you want specific individual help, you can comment on a relevant post or try a forum like Bratabase.

My comment disappeared when I posted it. Did it get deleted?
Unless you are a spambot, no. I publish all comments other than those that are spam or solely sexual in nature. I don't delete any other comments, even if they are mean or snarky or say I should quit blogging or whatever. Your snark is my life force, so don't be shy.
However, I do have to moderate comments because I get so much spam, so that's why there is a delay in publishing your comment.

You constantly refer to your audience as 'ladies' and 'women'. What about people of other gender identities?
I am 100% supportive of people of any gender identity and any kind of person who finds my blog educational is warmly welcome to read it. My personal active mission in life is combating the specific oppression that female-bodied, female-identified people face, but I also aim to be an ally of those who combat oppression facing other parts of the gender identity spectrum. I will continue to use the terms 'women', 'ladies', and so on to describe my audience, with the understanding that these terms are inclusive of anyone who feels described by them and do not exclude others from reading this blog.

I'm reading this blog solely for sexual purposes. Is that okay?
No. Why is this a thing? I really feel like you could find better sites for this elsewhere.  Really?

To be clear: The only group of people that I do NOT support in reading this blog are those who are here for sexual purposes. I do not consent to having my blog used in that way and anyone who does  is acting against my explicit command.

Why are you so mean to companies? Don't you know that those are real people trying to make a living?
I actually am keenly aware of this and it sometimes gives me pause. However, I deeply believe that it is NOT an act of respect to silence my criticism of companies. It is an act of respect, rather, to honestly take companies to task for their shortfallings. If companies produce a product that falls short, or as in some cases, is actually hurtful, disrespectful, or spreads ignorance, I feel it is wrong to say nothing. I say good things about companies when they do good things and I say bad things about the bad things that they do. As long as I am not standing in front of their homes or mocking their personal lives, this is all professional and appropriate.
What is more, a business won't survive by making a crappy product even if bloggers don't say anything about it. This is just a fact of business and I'm fairly sure that companies are aware of it.

Can we see a photo of your face?
I hate the fact that the answer is no, because my community of readers is awesome and I wish I could connect with you in that way. Unfortunately, I still need to hide my identity in case my life takes me in a direction not compatible with my blog's content. This may change in the future. Same goes for my (first) name, which I wish I could share with my readers. We'll see.

What blogs inspire you?
In terms of my philosophy of blogging and my morality about it, I'm most inspired by Hyperbole and a Half. I'm linking to her FAQ because those values are best described there, plus it inspired me to make an FAQ page.
In terms of educational bra blogs, the blog that gave me my base of knowledge originally is the now-defunct Boobius Maximus. Author of Boobius Maximus, wherever you are, you changed my life and my goal in blogging is to continue what you started.

  3. You have changed my bra world and I thank you so much and wish I'd known all this 20-30 years ago.
My question is this: is there such a thing as a halter or strapless option? I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer.

  4. Very informative. You make very simple alterations that work very well. Did you minor in structural engineering?

  5. I hope I'm in the comment dept........
I started wearing Edith Lances bras 25 years ago, fitted in a shop that sells and does alterations.
One year, two underwires broke and I sent the bras back to Lances. They replaced both of them and I was very pleased. Now, wear and tear has rendered the elastic bands on two of them so stretched out that I don't feel comfortable in them. Since this is not a problem I would confront them with, I have been concocting my own repairs, as replacing them would cost close to $100 each. It's a daunting job, but I did manage to replace the rear elastic (with matching hook assembly) from a carefully-sought-out bra I picked up at the thrift store. It was practically brand new, with strong elastic because it was a strapless bra. It took me all afternoon, and my sewing machine didn't like sewing into thicknesses of elastic.........but I did complete the job, even hand-sewing the final stitches!
